About This Game

Space Invaders is a legendary arcade game originally released by Taito in 1978. It's one of the most influential video games of all time, pioneering the fixed shooter genre and establishing many conventions still used today. This Kuakua edition reimagines the classic with a marine-themed twist: instead of pixel aliens, you'll face 12 types of ocean creatures rising from the depths! The core gameplay remains faithful to the original — defend your base, dodge enemy fire, and clear each wave to survive.

How to Play

Move your ship left and right to avoid enemy fire and position your shots. You can only fire one bullet at a time, so aim carefully! Destroy all enemies in a wave to advance. Each wave introduces new enemy types that are worth more points but may move faster or shoot more frequently. Shields protect you in early waves but get destroyed over time. The mystery UFO flies across the top of the screen for bonus points — hit it for a surprise score! If all enemies reach the bottom row or you lose all lives, it's game over. But don't worry — you'll restart from the last wave you reached!

Tips & Strategy

Prioritize targets wisely: enemies at the top are worth more points (up to 120pt) but take longer to reach. Clear bottom-row enemies first when they get close to reduce incoming fire. The UFO appears periodically and can award 50-300 points. Every 23rd shot has a hidden score trick — try to figure out the pattern! As enemies are destroyed, the remaining ones speed up. Sometimes it's better to let them come closer for easier shots rather than firing from max distance. Earn an extra life every 1,500 points (max 5 lives). Surviving longer waves gives exponentially more points, so staying alive is the ultimate strategy.

Enemy Bestiary

The ocean has sent its finest warriors against you! Here's your enemy roster from easiest to hardest: ▫ Octopus (10 pts) — The basic foot soldier. Slow but numerous. ▫ Crab (20 pts) — Armed with pincers, slightly tougher. ▫ Squid (30 pts) — Quick and agile, fires accurately. ▫ Jellyfish (40 pts) — Ethereal and drifting, hard to pin down. ▫ Stingray (50 pts) — Glides smoothly, unpredictable patterns. ▫ Seahorse (60 pts) — Curled and crafty, dodges well. ▫ Pufferfish (70 pts) — Inflates when threatened — takes extra hits! ▫ Anglerfish (80 pts) — Lures you in with its glowing bait. ▫ Shark (90 pts) — The ocean's apex predator, fast and aggressive. ▫ Turtle (100 pts) — Armored shell, incredibly resilient. ▫ Manta Ray (110 pts) — Majestic wingspan, covers lots of ground. ▫ Narwhal (120 pts) — The legendary unicorn of the sea. The ultimate target! And watch for the Mystery UFO — it could be worth anywhere from 50 to 300 points!

How do I play Space Invaders?

Use arrow keys or A/D to move your ship left and right. Press SPACE to fire bullets at the enemies. Destroy all enemies to advance to the next wave. Don't let them reach you! Each new wave adds more rows, columns, and a new enemy type.

What are the different enemy types?

There are 12 marine-themed enemy types worth 10-120 points each: Octopus (10pt), Crab (20pt), Squid (30pt), Jellyfish (40pt), Stingray (50pt), Seahorse (60pt), Pufferfish (70pt), Anglerfish (80pt), Shark (90pt), Turtle (100pt), Manta Ray (110pt), Narwhal (120pt). The mystery UFO can appear randomly worth 50-300 points. New enemy types appear as you progress through waves!

How does the wave system work?

Wave 1 starts with 3 rows × 6 columns using 3 enemy types. Each subsequent wave adds +1 row, +1 column, and introduces a new enemy type at the top. Enemy speed and fire rate also increase naturally with each wave. Shields are available in early waves but disappear later. The challenge scales infinitely!

What happens when I lose all lives?

When you lose all lives, the game ends. Your final score is compared against your high score. The good news: when you restart, you begin from the last wave you reached, not from wave 1! Try to beat your best record and survive as many waves as possible.
