The Department of Psychology at Peking University (PKU) is renowned for its academic excellence in psychological research and education. It offers a range of programs at the undergraduate, master's, and doctoral levels, and focuses on high-quality research in fields like cognitive psychology, clinical psychology, and social psychology. PKU is a pioneer in the development of psychological theories and practices in China. Peking University is the birthplace of Chinese scientific Psychology, and its undergraduate education in the discipline began in 1900. With the support of Cai Yuanpei, the former chancellor of Peking University, the first Psychological laboratory in China was established in 1927. This laboratory is the predecessor of the School of Psychological and Cognitive Sciences. In recent years, the Psychological research and teaching in the school has been closely linked with national strategies and social needs in China. The school has trained a large number of talented individuals in basic and applied Psychology, and makes a great contribution to the development of Chinese Psychological science. The school is the only Chinese Psychological institute that ranks among the top 1 percent of the world in Psychological science.

Department of Psychology, University of Edinburgh

The Psychology department at the University of Edinburgh was established in 1906 by the estate of George Combe. The first permanent post was known as the Combe lectureship in General and Experimental Psychology. The first incumbent, Dr W.G. Smith, was a PhD student of Wilhelm Wundt, a founding father of modern psychology. The second incumbent, James Drever, became the first Professor of Psychology in Scotland. After a philosophically oriented start, the appointment of a biologist, Professor D.M. Vowles, as chair in 1968 saw psychology develop strongly as a scientific discipline. The department was incorporated into the School of Philosophy, Psychology, & Language Sciences in 2003. We currently have around forty members of academic staff spanning all major areas of academic psychology: cognition, development, individual differences, neuroscience, and social psychology. We offer both undergraduate and postgraduate training, including several taught and research Masters, and PhDs.
