The Department of Psychology, School of Humanities, Tongji University was established on May 14, 2016, with the aim of cultivating professionals in the field of applied psychology. The department offers first-level master's programs in psychology, including cognitive neuroscience, philosophical psychology and psychoanalysis, clinical and consulting psychology, and has established cooperative relationships with many internationally renowned universities.

Since its establishment in 2016, the department has quickly integrated the psychology faculty on campus, started recruiting first-level master's programs in psychology, and converted to a master's program in applied psychology in 2021. The aim of the Indian Psychology Institute is to explore and develop what the Indian traditions can contribute to modern psychology in terms of theoretical models, specific insights, reliable methods, practical applications, and avenues for future research.The Indian Psychology Institute wants to help with the development of new approaches to psychology based on Indian philosophy, yoga and a life-affirming spirituality. It holds that such approaches to psychology will not only be more in harmony with the Indian ethos, but that they can make a crucial contribution to the evolving global civilization.
Our department has three graduate programs that lead to a PhD—clinical, social-personality, and developmental psychology. We also have an undergraduate psychology major and several psychology minors.
