Better Internet for Kids (BIK) is a European initiative that strives to create a better internet for Europe’s children and youth. Underpinned by the European strategy for a better internet for kids (BIK+), it provides information, guidance and resources on better internet issues from the joint Insafe-INHOPE network of Safer Internet Centres in Europe, and other key stakeholders.
Better Internet for Kids provides access to dedicated work, support, services, and policies across the EU and beyond to create a safer and better online environment for children and young people. The Digital Agenda for Europe aims to have every European digital. Children have particular needs and vulnerabilities on the internet; however, the internet also provides a place of opportunities for children to access knowledge, to communicate, to develop their skills and to improve their job perspectives and employability. The Commission’s strategy for a better internet for kids (BIK+), adopted on 11 May 2022, will ensure that children are protected, respected and empowered online in the new Digital Decade, in line with the European Digital Principles. The strategy and a child-friendly version are available in all official languages. BIK+ is the digital arm of the comprehensive EU Strategy on the Rights of the Child (RoC) from 2021. It builds on the first European Strategy for a Better Internet for Children (BIK), published in 2012, and is accompanied by a compendium of relevant legislation.
