The NUMMENMAA LAB at Turku PET Centre is dedicated to unraveling the neurochemical and functional mechanisms that support human emotions, as well as their dysfunction in various psychiatric and neurological disorders. The lab focuses on studying system-level biological circuits from the brain to the periphery, particularly the endogenous opioid, dopamine, and endocannabinoid systems.
The lab combines state-of-the-art nuclear medicine imaging with advanced signal analysis, large-scale neuroinformatics, and modern clinical psychology to measure the brain's molecular organization and function using PET and MRI. It also conducts behavioral research using eye tracking and mobile recording techniques. Led by Lauri Nummenmaa, the lab is funded by the European Research Council, Academy of Finland, and other institutions.
The Department of Psychology at Emory University emphasizes the scientific study of behavior, offering undergraduate and graduate programs across various psychology disciplines. Emory University's Department of Psychology conducts wide-ranging research with humans and nonhuman animals, studying cognition, memory, learning, social behavior, and the biological bases of these capacities, as well as the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of psychopathology.
